Update from Jenny Morgan WSCA government relations Chair
" The latest budget proposals by both the House and Senate reflect alarmingly significant cuts to Education for the upcoming school year. It is imperative that you begin and/or continue to advocate for the importance of school counselors and your position. We highly encourage you to present to your local parent organizations and school boards about the role of the school counselor and specifics about your school guidance and counseling programs. Presenting data of your impact on student achievement works! We also encourage you to meet with your building principal and district superintendent, to also discuss the important role of the school counselor. Advocate for yourself now! Do this before districts begin determining what they will be cutting. The ASCA National Model shows us how to be accountable and how we can impact student achievement. Use this important tool. Remember that there is still time to contact your individual legislators (link provided) urging them to not cut funding in Education. The following documents provided by ASCA and WSCA can also help you with advocating. Best wishes!
